What is Reformer Pilates and how is it different from Mat Pilates?
As its name suggests, Reformer Pilates is a form of Pilates that uses a specially designed machine called the Reformer. The Reformer consists of a sliding carriage, springs, ropes & straps. This unique piece of equipment gives you the option to add resistance to Pilates exercises, making them more challenging than mat Pilates. Reformer Pilates focuses on building strength, flexibility and balance, while also providing a low-impact, full-body workout.

Is Reformer suitable for beginners?
YES!!
Reformer Pilates is suitable for all levels of fitness, including those who have never done Mat Pilates before. The Reformer can be adjusted to accommodate different levels of strength and flexibility. We recommend attending of of our beginners 1:1s, courses or workshops before booking onto a mixed ability class.

What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates?
The Reformer allows you to take your workout to the next level.
The benefits differ from Mat pilates as the Reformer allows you to add resistance and you will need to focus on your posture and balance more so you don't fall, the reformer moves when you do unlike the floor.

More benefits include:
Improved strength
The Reformer’s resistance helps you build muscular strength and endurance, particularly in your core, legs and upper body.

Increased flexibility
Reformer Pilates encourages a greater range of motion, helping you become more flexible and agile over time.
Better balance and coordination
The exercises performed on the Reformer challenge your balance and coordination, leading to improved overall body control.
Enhanced posture
By strengthening your core muscles and improving your body awareness, Reformer Pilates can contribute to better posture and alignment.
Low-impact exercise

Is Reformer Pilates safe if I have Desistais Recti?
Absolutely I am Pre & Post natal qualified and can give you adaptations to help the gap come together and not make it any worse.
Do I need to be Flexible to begin?
Absolutely not! My saying is "you don't need to be flexible to start as Pilates will make you flexible".
How many sessions before I will have results?
One of Joseph Pilates famous quotes is "In 10 sessions, you will feel the difference. In 20, you will see the difference. And in 30, you’ll be on your way to having a whole new body".

Is Pilates the same or similar to Yoga?
The main difference is that Yoga focuses more on flexibility and broad muscle groups while Pilates focuses on muscle toning, body control, and core strength. In Yoga you would adopt a position and hold it, in Pilates you would adopt a position and challenge your core as you continue to move your arms and legs.

What is the age range of the participants in a class?
The age range of participants at Exhale Pilates Studio is broad.
I would say we have clients from 18 to 70 years old, but who knows they could be older?
Pilates does not discriminate!
Here is another Joseph Pilates quote for you "You're only as old as your spine".
Do Men attend classes?
Yes! Saying that we definitely have more women in our classes than men, but we have more and more men attending our classes every month. Most professional male athletes do Reformer Pilates alongside their other training, so if it's good enough for the likes of Ronaldo, it's definitely good enough for you!
